Semantics first
Anatomy
Uses a labelled tree with treeitem descendants and explicit level, position, set size, expanded, selected, and disabled states.
Consumer classes, styles, and data attributes may extend the surface, but required roles, IDs, relationships, and handlers remain owned by the component.
Keyboard
Tab enters at one visible tree item.
Arrow Up/Down, Home, and End move among visible enabled nodes.
Arrow Right expands or enters children; Arrow Left collapses or returns to the parent.
Typing performs buffered typeahead.
Enter or Space selects the focused node.
